IBERDROLA’s strategy, based on significant development of renewable energy, mainly wind energy, and more environmentally-efficient thermal production technology (natural gas combined cycle power plants), has given rise to a production structure that allows IBERDROLA commit to its Policy against Climate Change (approved at the end of 2009) [PDF] to continue to be among the largest energy companies with lesser CO2 emissions per GWh produced.
Specific emissions from global MIX

AENOR has certified IBERDROLA’s greenhouse gas emissions inventory according to the UNE ISO 14064-1:2006 standard (Specification with guidance at the organization level for quantification and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions and removals).
The firm has become the first Spanish company and one of a pioneering few worldwide to obtain the aforementioned certification from AENOR for its emissions portfolio, which covers all its activities in Spain, the United Kingdom, the United States and Latin America.
