COP15: UN climate change summit
Between 7-18 December 2009, Copenhagen played host to COP15, the 15th U.N. Summit on Climate Change.
The meeting brought together the leaders of more than 190 countries with the critical challenge of achieving an agreement that will pave the way for a new treaty to succeed the Kyoto Protocol, which expires in 2012. The main objective is to reduce CO₂ emissions by an amount sufficient to avoid global warming in excess of 2ºC by the year 2050.
