14/03/2012 IBERDROLA ENDORSES THE WATER GLOBAL COMPACT

Launched in July 2007 by the United Nations Secretary-General, the CEO Water Mandate is a public-private initiative designed to help companies in developing, implementing and disseminating sustainability policies for water management. Water is one of the greatest sustainability-related challenges of the 21st century. Shortage of water and water contamination, as well as many other issues, may threaten the growth of strong and stable economies, the satisfaction of basic human needs, the protection of the ecosystems, while simultaneously provoking serious problems to human health.
Business corporations are greatly affected by – and frequently contribute to – these very important issues. Given this, further information is required in order to attempt to understand how to face these challenges.
The CEO Water Mandate includes six elements: Direct Operations; Supply Chain and Watershed Management; Collective Action; Public Policy; Community Engagement; and Transparency.
Through the CEO Water Mandate IBERDROLA acknowledges that through both individual and collective actions, a contribution may be made towards both the vision of the UN Global Compact and the UN Millennium Development Goals.
